Nomhle Ngwenya, a brilliant young woman from South Africa, has set an impressive academic record by becoming the youngest person ever to earn a PhD degree from Wits University in Johannesburg, South Africa.
At the age of 25, Nomhle graduated with a PhD degree in Geography and Environmental Science, making her the youngest ever to achieve such a feat in the institution. She had previously earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and Sociology and her Master’s degree in Geography and Environmental Sciences, all from Wits University, South Africa, between 2015 and 2022.
Nomhle expressed her gratitude and excitement on Twitter, stating that she was “truly humbled” to be the youngest ever PhD graduate at Wits University. She also noted that her PhD journey has taught her resilience, passion, and the importance of determination in achieving one’s goals.
Her PhD project focused on innovative financial mechanisms in the bond market and their potential role in financing the low carbon transition in South Africa, with the guidance of her supervisor, Prof Simatele.
Nomhle’s academic achievement at such a young age serves as an inspiration to many young people, proving that with hard work, dedication, and support, one can achieve their dreams and make a positive impact in their field of study.
