Originally from the breathtaking islands of Antigua and Barbuda, Dr. Maria James has become a true shining star among her peers. In a graduating class of 20 students at Towson University, she stood out, and rightly so, as one of only two Black individuals, making her accomplishments even more outstanding.
Her academic odyssey began with a bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from Oakwood University in Alabama, USA. All along her educational journey, Maria’s brilliance and extraordinary abilities were evident to her faculty members and family. They always knew she had something special within her, and her achievements have filled them with immense pride.
For her doctoral thesis, Maria delved into the crucial topic of culturally responsive care for adolescents with complex trauma. This shows her unwavering dedication to making a real difference in the field of occupational therapy, and it’s truly inspiring.

Priscilla Asikhia started her university education at the age of 15, after overcoming the challenges of being called a girl with no future ambitions by her secondary school principal. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at 19 and proceeded to do her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. She returned to Babcock University for her Master’s degree in Business Administration and Management, which she completed at 22.
