Naziha Amin Gombilla is a remarkable example of resilience, determination and excellence. She recently made history by becoming the first law student to graduate with a first-class honours degree from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Law School. She also emerged as the valedictorian for her graduating class of 2022 and received awards for being the best student in both public law and private law.
But her journey to academic success was not smooth or easy. She faced challenges and setbacks that could have discouraged her from pursuing her dreams. She disclosed that she had to re-sit for her West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) after failing Mathematics. This delayed her university admission for a year.
However, she did not give up on herself or her aspirations. She enrolled at UPSA in 2018 to pursue a Bachelor of Laws degree and worked hard to achieve excellent results. She participated in moot court competitions, law conferences and seminars, and leadership roles. She served as the Vice-President of the UPSA Law Students Union (LSU), a Justice of the LSU Judicial Board, a Senate Representative for her class, an Assistant Organiser of the mooting society of UPSA LSU, and a legal advisor to the Student Representative Council (SRC). She also mentored and tutored many students at the UPSA Law School, helping them to better appreciate the law.
Naziha attributes her success to God, her parents, her lecturers, and her colleagues. She says that life at UPSA exposed her to certain realities that helped her gain maturity and understand what it takes to be a professional lawyer. She also says that she is a better person now than she was four years ago.
Naziha hails from Tamale in the Northern Region of Ghana. She completed her secondary education at the Accra Girls Senior High School, where she was the best student in History, Government and Literature in 2017. She has a long essay in her name titled, “Swearing in the Speaker of Parliament as President and Vice-President are outside the country: A Case of Dual Presidency in Ghana?”
Naziha is very analytical, goal-oriented, and proactive. She aspires to be an International Energy Law expert, a lecturer, and a guru in the fashion industry. She is also a recipient of the Federation of Africa Law Students (FALAS) leadership icon award in recognition of her outstanding leadership role and contribution to the growth and development of law students in Africa.
Naziha Amin Gombilla is an inspiration to many young people who may face challenges or failures in their academic pursuits. She proves that with hard work, perseverance, and faith, nothing is impossible.
