Eighteen-year-old Aniya Richardson from Concord, North Carolina, is making headlines as a shining example of academic excellence and perseverance. The high school senior at West Cabarrus High School has been accepted to 28 colleges and has received an astounding $2.1 million in scholarship offers. Aniya is not only an academic star but also a self-taught musician and an active participant in extracurricular activities. Over the years, she has mastered multiple instruments, including the guitar and violin, and is now learning the drums. Aniya’s journey of success began early, with her mother, Candace Stratford, recognizing her daughter’s exceptional abilities in the fifth grade. “I don’t think there is one thing that she tried to do that she was not really good at,” Stratford shared. Among the colleges vying for Aniya’s attendance are esteemed institutions such as Howard University, Clemson University, Spelman College, UNC Charlotte, and Tuskegee University. However, Aniya remains patient, awaiting responses from a few more schools before making her final decision.

Her ultimate goal is to become a therapist specializing in supporting cancer patients who face treatment alone. This compassionate ambition underscores her determination to use her talents to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
“I want to just take that pathway and have [others] follow in my footsteps so [they] could be successful as well,” Aniya said, expressing her hope to inspire her family and peers.
Supporting Her Next Chapter
As Aniya prepares to graduate in the top percentile of her class this spring, her family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover any additional college expenses. She acknowledges the tremendous opportunities she’s been afforded, saying, “I don’t take it for granted and appreciate all the opportunities that have been awarded to me thus far.”
