Nigerian teenager invents robot using exoskeleton remote control (Video)

Isah Auwal-Barde, a 17-year-old boy from Kano State, Nigeria, has achieved a remarkable feat by inventing a robot operated through a robotic exoskeleton remote control, marking a significant stride in robotics innovation.

The exoskeleton remote control system enables the operator to control the robot through body movements demonstrated by parts of the body.

Auwal-Barde’s journey into robotics began with a childhood passion for creativity, nurtured by his supportive family environment. Graduating from Government Secondary School (GSS), Sabuwar-Kofa, Kano, in 2021 with an outstanding performance in science subjects, he demonstrated his commitment to innovation.

Using locally available materials such as DC motors, copper wires, pipes, corrugated cardboard, and metal, Auwal-Barde spent two years crafting the robot, which operates on electricity. His ambition is to become a robotics engineer, with a vision to develop robots that can address various security challenges facing the nation.

Expressing gratitude to his father for unwavering support and encouragement, Auwal-Barde shared his aspiration to secure a scholarship for further education abroad, envisioning a future where he can expand his knowledge and contribute to the field of robotics.

The teenager’s ingenuity has attracted attention from the National Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), leading to discussions about securing admission to a local university to study Computer Engineering.
