Quvenzhané: Making us feel bad about ourselves since 2012.
Academy Award nominee Quvenzhané Wallis, now 12 years old, is writing a children’s book series to be published by Simon & Schuster between January 2017 and Summer 2018.
The yet-untitled series will comprise three chapter books and one picture book, loosely based on Wallis’ own (already impressive) life experiences. The tiny actress, of course, was cast at age 5 for a starring role in 2012’s “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She’s also worked alongside Lupita Nyong’o and Michael Fassbender in “12 Years a Slave” and starred in last year’s “Annie” remake, earning herself a Golden Globe nomination. And yes, she knows you don’t know how to say her name.
Her picture book will follow a spunky young girl as she gets ready for, and arrives at, an award show with her mother. Meanwhile, the chapter books — for readers ages 6 and up — will tell the story of an up-and-coming star named Shai Williams, who has “a flair for the dramatic … both onstage and off.” (Maybe it’s more autobiographical than she’s letting on?)
