Oluwafunmilayo Oni, a Nigerian lady, has been awarded the Chevening Scholarship, a prestigious scholarship from the United Kingdom, after being selected from 51,840 applications, which is only 2% of the total applicants. Despite obtaining a second-class lower Bachelor’s degree diploma, Oluwafunmilayo was awarded both the UK Government Chevening Scholarship and the Irish Government Scholarship.
In a LinkedIn post, Oluwafunmilayo shared that she had doubted her potential to receive any scholarships due to her grade in her bachelor’s degree. She also mentioned that previous scholarship opportunities had minimum requirements of a second-class upper degree, which she did not have. Despite this, she did not give up on applying for scholarships.
After several attempts, Oluwafunmilayo was awarded both the Chevening Scholarship and the Irish Aid scholarship on the same day. However, she had to decline one of the scholarships as she could only accept one for her Master’s program overseas. “I must now select 1,” she said.
